Want to get healthier but can’t get motivated? How about if you have 30 of your neighbors encouraging you and cheering you on?
That’s what’s happening weekly in Laveen Village with this free weekly health initiative in Laveen — Miles for Change Laveen. This is the only running/walking club in Laveen, dedicated to supporting the physical and mental health of our community through regular fitness and exercise.
Every Monday at 5 PM, the group meets at Robeks Juice Laveen, 7625 S 59th Ave. Participants then walk or run along the Laveen Canal. Between 30 and 40 participants are coming each week. Mario Valencio, owner of Robeks Juice Laveen, also gives particiapnts 20% off their orders.
Beyond health and fitness, Valencio says he is hoping to bring attention to the Laveen Canal and Bridge area to encourage city improvements based on the increasing foot traffic. “This is about giving back to Laveen and promoting a healthier, more connected community,” Mario says.
