{"id":4830,"date":"2016-11-07T13:24:01","date_gmt":"2016-11-07T20:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.finditinlaveen.com\/?p=4830"},"modified":"2016-12-06T13:35:55","modified_gmt":"2016-12-06T20:35:55","slug":"laveen-preps-for-3rd-annual-winter-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/finditinlaveen.com\/laveen-preps-for-3rd-annual-winter-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Laveen preps for 3rd Annual Winter Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While most of us are just getting our Halloween decorations put away, members of the Laveen Education Foundation already are wearing their winter thinking caps because it\u2019s almost time for the Third Annual Winter Festival.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s festival is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9 at the Laveen Education Center, 5001 W. Dobbins Road.<\/p>\n<p>As it has for the past two years, the festival will feature games, activities, student performances, photo opportunities, holiday gift vendors and food. All the proceeds from the community wide gathering will benefit the Laveen Education Foundation, which provides college scholarships for local students.<\/p>\n<p>Kristen Landry, a spokeswoman for the Laveen Elementary School District, entertainment will include a number of student performances such as bands, orchestras, guitar ensembles and choirs from each of the district\u2019s schools as well as Ballet Folklorico dancers and Third Common.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great community event. We have entertainment, food, games, activities, prizes, and vendors,\u201d Landry said. \u201cThere really is something for everyone.\u00a0 Everyone is invited, even if you don\u2019t have children in Laveen\u2019s schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Landry said the foundation has vendors for the following in place:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/finditinlaveen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20161206_132929-e1481056352767.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4831 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/finditinlaveen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20161206_132929-e1481056352767-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"386\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Photo Booth<\/li>\n<li>Clay Charms<\/li>\n<li>Party Supplies<\/li>\n<li>Candles<\/li>\n<li>Soap<\/li>\n<li>Jewelry<\/li>\n<li>Navajo Jewelry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interested vendors should contact Joe Roselle, director of community partners and grants for the district at <a href=\"mailto:jroselle@laveeneld.org\">jroselle@laveeneld.org<\/a> or by phone at 602-237-9100.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Laveen\u2019s 10<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Turkey Trot &amp; Kids Dash<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year marks the 10<sup>th<\/sup> for the Thanksgiving Day event in Laveen and organizers have come up with some new incentives to get us off the couch and taking part in the 5K by either walking or running the timed race.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the 5K is a 1 mile fun walk and a Kids Dash, another Laveen tradition.<\/p>\n<p>Riverbend Prep Academy, a small charter school in Laveen, and the nonprofit Laveen Community Council are hosts for the event, which will begin and end on the track at Cesar Chavez High School Stadium.\u00a0 The route will wind through beautiful Cesar Chavez Park where runners can enjoy the beautiful views.\u00a0 The 1 mile run also will begin and end on the track.<\/p>\n<p>The Free Kids Dash will take place on the football field in the middle of the track and while it is free, all parents must register their child beginning at 7 a.m. on the day of the race.<\/p>\n<p>Proceeds from the 5K will go the Laveen Community Council and Riverbend Prep Academy\u2019s Health\/Fitness initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is open with early bird incentives: $25 for the 5K and $10 for the 1-mile run. Prices go to $40 and $20, respectively, on race day.
